Week 11 - Friday 11th July

Early Stages
Early Stages absolutely smashed their final rehearsal with flying colours last Friday! Throughout the session, our students practised in the Performance Space, familiarising themselves with the new environment, readjusting positioning and adapting their projection to suitably fill the area! It was a busy session combining show logistics with material improvements - ensuring all our students feel confident and excited for the Show Day! Early Stages were very pleased to have a few 'VIPs' witness their final rehearsal - not even the heat could stop Early Stages from using every last minute to polish their performance! It's been a fantastic term with so much to celebrate; Andy and the team just can't wait to share with you everything our exceptional students have achieved this coming Friday! To all our students - be brave like Simba - you've got this!

Stage 1
Stage 1 had a wonderfully collaborative session this week! Drama focused on turn-taking, teamwork and identifying what makes screen acting engaging. The group took part in a range of activities that encouraged creativity and contribution within a team setting; it was lovely to see their confidence grow as they supported one another. In Singing, they explored call-and-response techniques to build listening/timing skills and began learning 'If Only You Would Listen' from School of Rock - a great piece that lets them connect with character while working on vocal control. Dance began with a high-energy warmup and balancing challenges, before moving into confidence-focused corner work that encouraged everyone to push themselves! Strength/control were key throughout and the group gave it their all!

Stage 2
Stage 2 were fully immersed in their work this week, beginning in Drama, with a focus on physical theatre and ensemble-based storytelling. They took part in team-building activities before devising their own original scenes based on a given theme, showing strong creative thinking and excellent use of physical expression. In Singing, the group explored singing in a round and began work on 'Oh, The Thinks You Can Think' from Seussical, learning how to act through the song and bring storytelling into their performance. Their focus and enthusiasm were fantastic to see. Dance focused on technique and full-body strength, using corner work to build control, extension and core power. This is laying a solid foundation for more complex choreography next term!

Stage 3
Stage 3 showed real leadership and maturity throughout their session. They kicked off Drama by leading their own vocal and physical warm-up before diving into film critique and devising their own adaptation of Descendants, thinking creatively about how to bring it from screen to stage. Their ideas were sharp and thoughtful, and they worked well together to shape their scenes. In Singing, they explored a capella harmonies, singing in rounds and blending as a group - all without accompaniment - which really pushed their listening and tuning skills. Dance was full of variety, with strength-based drills, corner technique and breakdance elements that introduced a fresh style into their repertoire. They also worked on pirouette technique, developing more adventurous skills to carry forward into future routines!

Further Stages
Further Stages were completely absorbed in their creative work this week, diving into the challenge of devising their own murder mystery in Drama. They developed detailed, original characters and worked brilliantly as a group to build tension and intrigue, with some clever twists and sharp improvisation along the way. It was fantastic to see their storytelling instincts developing so confidently. In Singing, they continued working on You Will Be Found, focusing on expressive solo lines and vocal technique to enhance resonance and control. The emotional depth they’re beginning to bring to the piece is really impressive, and there was a real sense of connection and support across the group as they lifted each other’s performances! Further Stages have much to look forward to and these areas of focus will prepare them for an exciting Autumn Term!
